September Favorites

Here we are. September has arrived and I’m ready to be swept away by cozy turtlenecks, warm sips of pumpkin lattes, crisp air, crunchy leaves, camping, smoky bonfires, suspenseful movies, evening walks, and delicious aromas coming from my kitchen. 🍁

With a few more weeks left before fall, I thought I’d share some things I’ve been quite taken with lately. Perhaps this will be a fun new feature of the blog!

1. Brown Tote

I typically use two purses: one is a purse I use strictly for work. The other is used for weekend fun. I purchased this tote as a work purse, but I’ve been loving it so much, I’ve been using it constantly! It’s large enough to fit a laptop, a small umbrella, and even that fresh eucalyptus from the market. At a great price, I’m happy with the quality so far. I’ve been seeing this style tote everywhere lately. Figures Target would come out with an affordable option!

2. Oka-B Flip Flops

These flip flops (courtesy of Oka-B) are perfect for “Florida Fall.” The black combined with the leopard detail doesn’t look too summery, but instead rather cozy. I love these paired with some rolled up jeans and a cardigan. Effortless. Keep your eyes peeled for these flip flops in their fall collection!

3. The Magnolia Journal

I read this magazine like a book: from cover to cover. This magazine always leaves me inspired and motivated. Amazing design ideas, beautiful (tear-jerking) stories, and recipes that have you reaching for your grocery list. Each issue is better than the last. I can’t recommend it enough! The Fall issue is on newsstands now!

4. Sips By Tea Subscription

Calling all tea lovers! Sips by is a monthly tea subscription box. If you know me, this is seriously a match made in heaven. With some natural light and a cup of tea, I’m in my happy place. The subscription has you fill out a profile so they can select teas from around the world, specifically catered to your tastes. This is also a great way to get a little adventurous and try new types of tea!

5. Rifle Paper Co. Recipe Box

This darling recipe box could easily become a family keepsake. It’s as pretty as it is practical! There are also a few other patterns to choose from. I find a daily little joy, reaching for a well loved recipe from this box, and adding a new favorite to the collection.

All You Need is Love…And Green Tea

I’ve often described green tea as a “hug in a cup.” There’s something so comforting, so calming about it. Perhaps it’s the warmth, or its light flavor. I can’t get enough of it. ☕️

My love for green tea started when I was a little girl. Daily visits to my Nonna’s house included her homemade cookies and a cup of green tea. The ritual continued at home with my mom. I quickly grew accustomed to drinking typically two cups a day. Little did I know, I was forming a very healthful and beneficial habit.

Nutritionists recommend two to three cups of green tea a day because it has so many health benefits! 🌿

~To Name A Few~

  1. It is a great source of antioxidants. This can help reduce your risk of certain types of cancer! (Such as colon cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer)
  2. It’s really good for your oral health. In fact, it prevents tooth decay and reduces bad breath!
  3. It is known to help reduce anxiety. I can attest to that. I start my day with a cup every morning. It really helps calm me as I start my hectic work day.
  4. Green tea can help speed your metabolism up. Therefore, green tea can aide with weight loss. Two to three cups a day can burn approximately 100 calories.
  5. It reduces bad cholesterol.
  6. Green tea improves skin health.

The list honestly goes on. Green tea is absolutely amazing. I used to drink coffee almost every day. Now, I only drink coffee for pleasure, like on the weekends or when meeting a friend. Instead, I start my day with a cup of green tea with honey. Then, in the evening, I end my day with a cup. (And some Netflix. They go well together. 😉)

I personally do not care for the green tea that you’ll find at the grocery store. I look for specialty green teas at places like Homegoods and Marshalls. They have a lot of flavored organic green teas like raspberry green tea, mango green tea, blueberry green tea, and more. They’re hard to come by, so when you find some, stock up! They are so delightfully delicious!

This past year, I’ve fallen in love with loose leaf tea. There are so many flavor options. The flavor is so fresh. Some have dried flowers and fruit for added flavor. So much yum. You can also combine leaves to create a new flavor.

Perhaps you are now inspired to make green tea part of your daily routine! Enjoy all of its lovely benefits. I’m finishing my nightly cup right now, before I drift off to sleep. 🌙

The Start

20150919-IMG_9665

Welcome to The Young Wife. My name is Julia and I’m beyond excited to be launching this blog! I’ve blogged at various times in my life, but this is the first time I have a specific vision and purpose.  Before you read any further, please check out the About  page to get to know me a little better.

I want this blog to be a fun stop at the end of a long work day, an interesting place to browse while you’re laying on the beach, a resource of sorts for people to gain cooking and home advice, a girly companion alongside tea and a mud mask.

I am The Young Wife, and with that, this blog is simply me.  I am not boxed into one category. I like to sing, cook, write, photograph, travel, eat, go outside, draw, and the list goes on. Therefore, this blog is a one stop shop.

No matter how old you are, we all are trying to figure this thing out called “adulting.” There is no tried and true recipe for it.  You just have to learn how to season it with adventure as life happens to you.

I am so excited to start sharing my heart ramblings and advice with you all. Feel free to add this blog to your nightly routine of Netflix binging and Spotify jamming. I hope to be posting regularly, so check back often.

Chat with you soon!

~Julia

P.s. When I was little, whenever I’d help my dad cook brunch, he always called me Julia Child. I like that.
