Happy Summer in a Happy Dress

Shop: DRESS

Oh, Summer. You’ve never been my favorite season. Fall is a tough one to compete with. But I will say, this is my favorite summer yet. It is off to such a beautiful, joyous start. And honestly I’m starting to fall in love with this season!

Bright. Flourishing. Evening storms. The most marvelous sunsets that look good enough to eat. Pool days that make me feel like a kid again. Peaches and watermelon. That feeling when you leave the grocery and thaw out in the Florida humidity.

Summer, you’re so sweet and I like you.

Recently, I celebrated my 25th birthday! It was a day of much needed joy and family.  It started with a few surprises, brunch at a favorite restaurant, pool time with the fam, and ended with homemade pizza (recipe coming soon!).

The past few birthdays, Billy gets me a “birthday dress” and I absolutely adore this one!

I seriously enjoy a dress that feels like a nightgown. You feel?  The pattern on this cream dress is so rich and colorful! Its so comfortable, yet makes an eye-catching statement.  Loving mid-length dresses lately with buttons down the front. A summertime staple I’ll be wearing year after year.

This summer, I want to encourage you to read more books, spend more time outside, and hug your loved ones a little tighter.  Bask in the summer joy that rises with each morning.

The Black Coffee Date Dress

f0bc42f8-246a-4d76-9842-c1bb49b17ec5.jpg

It’s been a minute since I’ve done a fashion post, but I adore this black dress so much, it inspired me to get back at it!

This dress says “coffee date”. Whether catching up with a dear friend, or day dreaming at a cafe with your love, this dress just seems right. A cappuccino just seems like the most fitting accessory, doesn’t it? ☕️

Something I’ve been focusing on the last year and a half when it comes to fashion is—do I like it or do I love it? If you simply like it, the chances are great it will tire you in 6 months, and will end up taking valuable space in your closet.  I carefully select clothing items that I love! Those pieces that I just can’t wait to wear.  Closet staples that are classic and comfortable.  Sure to stand the test of time.

This black dress is a new closet staple of mine.  Its elegant, simple, and so comfortable. It’s cool and breezy, which is perfect for the humid Florida days that are soon to commence.  It’s stretchy and basically feels like you’re wearing a giant t-shirt. Not mad about it.

Also, I gotta tell you–I am a sucker for buttons down the front of anything.  I just think it gives such a subtle detail, and a touch of class.

I appreciate versatile clothing pieces, and this one is just that.  You can easily dress this up with some wedges and dressy earrings.  Or you can keep things casual like I have pictured here.  The darling coffee date dress.

It makes me happy to know that I can wear this dress in the fall too! Some loafers and a long cardigan will cozy this dress up.  Worth every penny!

Well, before I begin making dinner, I must mention that straw purse I’m holding! It’s a cute little vintage find and was only $12 at a local vintage market.  I was smitten when I laid eyes on it. I wonder what adventures it’s been on? 😉

Youthful Faith

Faith came a lot easier as a child. Heights didn’t bother me as they do now. I’d gleefully perch a lizard on my shoulder. Now I can’t stand the sight of them. If I was told something, I would believe it. Without question.

I really like grapes. I always have. When I was little, I recall my dad telling me if I kept eating so many grapes, a grape vine would grow inside my belly. And I believed him.

Then, somewhere along the lines, that blissful, unwavering faith dissipated. As I grew older, I took life’s blows a little harder. Worry and doubt lurked on every corner. “Anxious” became a word I used to describe myself.

Jesus wants us to come before Him as children. With reckless abandon. Faith without hesitancy. Childlike faith. Or as I like to call it, “Youthful Faith.” When I was a teacher’s aide, I was blessed to witness this childlike faith lived out daily. It’s amazing how we adults can learn so much from God’s precious children.

As an adult, having youthful faith goes against my nature. I want to swim through my mess and try to fix things myself. Then, I find myself washed up on shore, breathless and drenched with defeat.

I love this quote by Oswald Chambers: “Faith is absolute trust in God—trust that could never imagine He would forsake us.”

And that’s just it. God will NEVER leave me nor forsake me. I can KNOW that.

My Nonno (that’s Italian for “grandpa”) was an amazing example of youthful faith. Every night he kneeled by his bed and prayed. And believed in the power of prayer. On his death bed, he had absolutely no fear. He said, “I am going to the place He has prepared for me.” And he said so with joy and confident anticipation. THAT is youthful faith!

When I first started blogging, I originally named my blog “The Young Wife”, because I was married at 21. A little while after, the name “The Youthful” came to me, and I felt the Lord telling me to change my blog’s name. It’s funny because “The Young Wife” had everything to do with age, while “The Youthful” has nothing to do with age and everything with attitude. Since renaming the blog, God has revealed new depths of its meaning: My name (Julia) means “youthful.” My goal is to live joyously and simply, seeking adventure along the way. And recently, the concept of “Youthful Faith” hit me. God is in alllllll the details, friends.

I am encouraged that I don’t have to “adult” my way through tough situations. I can cry out to my Heavenly Daddy, and KNOW that He will provide. That He will take care of me. That He will give me peace. That He will carry me through.

Whether you’re on top of a glorious mountain, or down in the depths of the valley, trust the Father. I encourage you, my spiritual siblings, to live a life of Youthful Faith.

Dressing Fall in Florida

Fall certainly knows how to cozy its way into our hearts. Pumpkin patches, warm and spicy drinks, and the beloved sweater weather.

Oh wait, it’s 90 degrees where I live. *facepalm*

To my fellow Floridians and residents of warmer climates, this blog post was written with love, for you! How to feel festive and autumnal, without risking heat exhaustion.

🍁 🍁 🍁

There’s two elements I want to focus on:

Color and Texture.

While I can’t exactly break out my turtleneck just yet, dressing in fall colors certainly gives me all the Fall vibes.

Think cranberry, caramel, mustard yellow, olive green, orange, different shades of brown, gray, and black.

Pictured below is the perfect example of me wearing a cool, breezy dress in a very “fall” appropriate color.

When it comes to texture, think knit, sweater-like, fuzzy, and cozy.

Pictured below is this darling sweater vest. Gives off that cozy vibe, but still leaves plenty of breathing room.

Now, how you accessorize in the fall can be of equal importance.

Since wearing a beanie isn’t exactly an option right now, I love a wide brimmed felt hat. Makes me feel like a little lady. Hehe.

Boots are just too warm right now. And honestly, it’s almost embarrassing to wear them in 90 degree weather. I like to lean towards ballet flats (How cute are these pictured below (courtesy of Oka-B) in the port wine color?!), loafers and mules, and ankle boots.

I hope I was able to give you some fresh, festive, Florida, fall fashion! (I love me some alliteration! 😜) If I inspired you in any way, use the hashtag #theyouthfultribe in your photo. I’d love to see what you’re sharing and wearing. Here’s to hoping we can wear actual sweaters sometime this season!  🍁🌻🍂

September Favorites

Here we are. September has arrived and I’m ready to be swept away by cozy turtlenecks, warm sips of pumpkin lattes, crisp air, crunchy leaves, camping, smoky bonfires, suspenseful movies, evening walks, and delicious aromas coming from my kitchen. 🍁

With a few more weeks left before fall, I thought I’d share some things I’ve been quite taken with lately. Perhaps this will be a fun new feature of the blog!

1. Brown Tote

I typically use two purses: one is a purse I use strictly for work. The other is used for weekend fun. I purchased this tote as a work purse, but I’ve been loving it so much, I’ve been using it constantly! It’s large enough to fit a laptop, a small umbrella, and even that fresh eucalyptus from the market. At a great price, I’m happy with the quality so far. I’ve been seeing this style tote everywhere lately. Figures Target would come out with an affordable option!

2. Oka-B Flip Flops

These flip flops (courtesy of Oka-B) are perfect for “Florida Fall.” The black combined with the leopard detail doesn’t look too summery, but instead rather cozy. I love these paired with some rolled up jeans and a cardigan. Effortless. Keep your eyes peeled for these flip flops in their fall collection!

3. The Magnolia Journal

I read this magazine like a book: from cover to cover. This magazine always leaves me inspired and motivated. Amazing design ideas, beautiful (tear-jerking) stories, and recipes that have you reaching for your grocery list. Each issue is better than the last. I can’t recommend it enough! The Fall issue is on newsstands now!

4. Sips By Tea Subscription

Calling all tea lovers! Sips by is a monthly tea subscription box. If you know me, this is seriously a match made in heaven. With some natural light and a cup of tea, I’m in my happy place. The subscription has you fill out a profile so they can select teas from around the world, specifically catered to your tastes. This is also a great way to get a little adventurous and try new types of tea!

5. Rifle Paper Co. Recipe Box

This darling recipe box could easily become a family keepsake. It’s as pretty as it is practical! There are also a few other patterns to choose from. I find a daily little joy, reaching for a well loved recipe from this box, and adding a new favorite to the collection.

Walking in Hope

Shop shoes here, similar shorts (same brand) here, and similar top (same brand) here.

(About the Outfit:: Comfy shorts are my new favorite thing. Paired with this flouncy crop top, this outfit has a relaxed, airy look. The sandals, courtesy of  Oka-B, are my new favorites! They’re flexible, have amazing arch support, and are rainy day friendly!)

I’m currently perched on my sofa with a cup of tea, my favorite quilt, and a bowl of oatmeal. The funny thing is–It’s actually 10 p.m. What can I say? I love me some oatmeal, not just for breakfast. Healthy dessert, y’all. Try it. 😉

I contemplated what to write this evening for a great while. Just about every idea ran through my head: recipes, the online shopping trend, which Disney princess I relate to the most (just kidding! But that would actually be really fun. 😏), and the list goes on. But the funny thing is, I can plan posts. And I do. (You should see the list of content I have planned for the fall!!!) However, the best blog posts are the unplanned. The messy spontaneous-can’t type fast enough-posts.

Today I’m talkin’ hope.

There’s different phases of everyone’s journey. I’m in the particular season where change is foreseeable. Timing not so much. Details? Don’t have those either. It’s so tempting to try to figure it all out for myself. To plan. But you can’t plan what you don’t know.

And that’s where hope comes in. I learned a long time ago to stop making plans. It’s good to have goals and pencil in some plans, but bearing in mind that these are not set in stone. That I am not the author here. And thank goodness for that! The hope for the unknown is in God’s hands, and there’s no safer place I’d rather be.

The other day I was amidst a minor trial. It was short lived. Popped up unexpectedly. But a trial, nonetheless. Amidst the crazy, one of our cars needed repairs, so Billy had to drive me to work. He put the Christian radio station on. I never listen to the radio while I drive, so it was fun to start the morning with some encouragement by a pastor. I was sleepy, sipping my breakfast shake, and gazing out the window. When all the sudden the pastor’s sermon hit me right where I needed it. He was talkin’ about hope. I can’t remember his exact words, but they were something like this…

If your put your hope in your abilities, those can go away. If you put your hope in your education, that can one day mean nothing. If you put your hope in your income, that can dissolve. If you put your hope in relationships, they can fail you. The only thing that is certain is: we can put our hope in the Lord! He never changes!

A little lump formed in my throat, as I tried not to completely break down. I had peace that day, and it didn’t even make sense. That’s when you know it’s from the Lord. 😉 So thankful I can have hope in Him!

So today, I encourage you to stop worrying. Stop trying to orchestrate everything. Just start walking in hope. It’s an enjoyable walk, with a peaceful destination. 😉

Gingham Style

Shop dress here and shoes here.

This feminine summer beauty was a birthday gift from my hubby this past June. I think it’s truly adorable and it’s so fun wearing a dress he surprised me with! It has affectionately been named “My Birthday Dress.”

I love gingham. I think it’s so classic. I especially love the cut of this dress. The square neckline gives it that extra timeless look. It’s lightweight, yet fully lined. Since it’s very breathable, I’ve been really enjoying wearing it on these hot summer days!

I truly adore a lovely little summer dress. I’m sure I’ll enjoy this dress for many summers to come. This one reminds me of my birthday, iced coffee dates downtown, and the 4th of July spent in Georgia. It’s fun to make memories in certain outfits. It brings those memories back when you wear it. ❤️

If you like this dress, you can view it here and see the other colors it comes in!

The “Joanna” Dress

Shop dress here , watch here , and similar shoes here.

I’ve quite enjoyed creating fashion content for The Youthful.  Not only is it delightful to share my favorite styles and pieces with my darling readers, but it is most amusing to use blogging as an excuse to shop.

“Billy, do you mind if I order this dress? It’s for the blog.” See what I did there? In all reality, it is for the blog, but it is certainly a fun little perk. I have a very patient and giving husband indeed!

Despite the title of this blog post, this dress is actually called “The Jewel Floral Dress.” However, Billy comically penned it “The Joanna Gaines Dress.” It couldn’t be more fitting. This dress screams southern charm with a whisper of simplicity.  Not to mention, I’m a huge fan of Chip and Jo, so I quite like the fun little nickname this dress has come to have.

While visiting Billy’s mom in Georgia, we shot some pictures for this blog post on her property. I’m positively smitten with this front porch. The woods in the background make the most serenely beautiful backdrop.

With pockets to hold safe keepings, and stretchy material to venture in, I absolutely adore this peach colored floral print. This is such an easy dress to throw on, and yet feel so beautiful in. While it makes for a fun summer dress, a cardigan or denim jacket paired with booties would make this outfit radiant in the fall. (Is it shameful to admit I’m already craving the fall?! I’ve found myself thinking about pumpkin spice lattes far too much lately. #sorrynotsorry)

I urge you to check out the other charming and affordable styles at the Piper & Scoot website!

That LulaRoe Legging Life

Disclosure: The LulaRoe leggings in this post were gifted to me by 2 Sweet Sisters Boutique LLC. Thanks, ladies! All opinions are my own.

I’m going to be totally real with you here.

I was a LulaRoe skeptic. I used to think “Leggings are leggings.” I’ve come to discover that not all leggings are created equal. In fact, I can honestly tell you, LulaRoe leggings are not yo average leggings. And here’s why.

Comfort. I have a pair of VS leggings. I spent a pretty penny on them. They’re pretty constricting in the waist band and the over all stretch is mediocre. When I tried on the LulaRoe leggings, I was literally blown away. Not even kidding. They have so much give, yet they don’t get saggy or baggy after wearing them for awhile. They retain their shape flawlessly, while stretching with literally every move you make. The material itself is very soft to the touch. I feel like I can do anything in these leggings. Errands. Lounging. Yoga. You name it. Literally living in these.

I received my leggings the day before a road trip to Georgia with my husband. After trying them on and instantly falling in love, I packed them in my suitcase. Now let me tell you: I always overpack clothes. You know how it goes…I pack an outfit for each day. And an outfit for each night. But then I wonder, “What if it rains?” So I pack alternate outfits for different weather conditions, and before I know it, I’ve packed over 20 outfits for a 5 day trip. Whoops 😉 Anyone else do that? Anyways, while in Georgia, despite my plethora of a clothing selection, guess what I kept reaching for the entire trip? Yup. The LulaRoe leggings. Guess what I washed while I was there and wore it on the 8 hour car ride home? The LulaRoe leggings. Yes, they are the best travel outfit.

Needless to say, I am a new fan, and I am absolutely going to purchase a few more pairs of leggings.

Okay, so if you want in on all the comfortable Lula-goodness, let me tell you about.

Whether you’re interested in LulaRoe leggings, a variety of comfy dress styles, tops, and more, Natalie and Brittany of 2 Sweet Sisters Boutique have it all. They started selling LulaRoe in November 2016, so they are very seasoned in what looks good and how to combine different styles.  Not to mention they are two of the sweetest girls ever! Their business name is very fitting ;). Natalie and Brittany started their business after quickly becoming obsessed with LulaRoe’s comfortable and versatile clothes. “Selling it together means we get to spend more time together. We love that we spend more time together now,” says Natalie regarding why they love having their business.

Natalie and Brittany have a huge inventory, so be sure to check them out on Facebook! You can also find them on Instagram or email them at lularoenatbritt@gmail.com

Breezy Striped Jumpsuit

Shop jumpsuit here, shoes here (sponsored), and similar purse here.

Rain. It seems to have made its grand entrance for the summer. While it does hinder what can be done outside, I quite enjoy a cozy, rainy day spent with a blanket and a good book.

Yet, one must venture out eventually.

A few afternoons ago, the rain had finally ceased. Humidity filled its place. Perfect opportunity to go get a popsicle.

This lovely jumpsuit was the perfect outfit for a humid afternoon. With its light weight, breathable material, and slits down the side, it makes for a breezy outfit. I find it to be very chic, in an effortless kind of way.

I quite enjoy the nautical vibes this jumpsuit is giving me. With navy stripes, this outfit would make itself right at home in Nantucket, wouldn’t it?
As the days grow hotter, I can only imagine how many times I’ll be reaching for this lovely (and affordable) outfit.
