Summer Priorities

With long, hot days followed by warm, breezy nights, summer is upon us.

Oh summer, I’m so happy to see you! I am so blessed to have the next two months off for the first time in years. Earlier today, I felt like God laid on my heart to talk about summer.

I could write a poetic ode to it. Something about the salty air and the smell of backyard barbecues. However, I feel more inclined to whisk you in a different direction.

Summertime, whether you are working or off for the next couple months, can sometimes be a busy time. We are so eager to DO. Beach. Pool. Shopping. Travel. Dinner parties. Cleaning. And all that is fine and dandy! By all means, do. But I am here to urge you to prioritize this summer.

Last summer, I was go-go-go. I was burnt out and didn’t take time to rest. It eventually caught up with me.

This summer: new goal. Take care of myself. From the inside, out. My emotional and physical well being need to be prioritized.

What does that look like?

Well for starters, I need to be in the Word more. I do my daily devotions year round, but I really should be digging in deeper. Now that I’m off for the summer, I have zero excuses. (But even when I’m working, I don’t have an excuse.) My goal is to start each morning quietly. Just me and the Lord. No blogging. No Netflix. Just me, Jesus, and a cup of green tea. (If you have kids, encourage them to do the same, and have them respect your quiet time.)

Secondly, fitness. I always eat healthy, but I am not one for working out. I’d like to try to change that this summer. I started a fitness program a week ago, and so far I love it! I don’t have any crazy fitness goals. I’m not trying to reach some sort of “bikini perfection.” I just want to feel a little stronger. I eat well, so I might as well tackle the other half of a healthy lifestyle.

My last thoughts on summer priorities is kind of a hodgepodge: Floss. Read an uplifting book or two. Rest.

Whether your agenda this summer is filled to the brim, or is looking pretty chill, remember to spend time with the Creator, eat healthfully, get up and move a little bit, and rest your body. At the end of this summer, I’ll let you know how I did.

Cheers to a summer invested in peace and joy!

Fitness Challenge: Week 4

I knew this day would come, the day I’d have to admit that I failed to complete a fitness challenge. It’s truth telling time…

So I didn’t work out 3 times last week. In fact, I only worked out once. Yikes, I know.

Last week was weird. It was the first week of summer camp at work. There was a tropical storm (which I got stranded in for 3 hours). And the list goes on. It was just one of those off weeks. #exhausting

But that’s life. I just gotta pick myself up and try again this week!

However, I did complete part of the challenge! Last week’s challenge was also to try a new type of fitness! I tried rock climbing with my hubby and loved it!! Oh my goodness, I can already feel myself getting hooked.

It was scary at first (I’m afraid of heights) and super intimidating. Then, once I kept trying, it was so empowering! Each route is different, almost like a puzzle. The challenge was so invigorating. I loved surprising myself and proving to myself I could do it! It made me feel strong. And it wasn’t boring like a typical workout can sometimes feel.

If you ever have the opportunity, I urge you to try rock climbing. It’s unbelievably fun. I can hardly wait to climb again!

Week 4

So let’s try this again: Workout 3 times this week!

Please feel free to share how your workouts are going! Comment below or send me a message on the contact page.

Happy healthy living! 💪🏼😎

Fitness Challenge: Week 3 (Plus Smoothie Recipe!)

Week 2 has come to a close, and I can officially say I completed the challenge of working out twice this week. 😄

For my first workout, I did some ballet barre fitness using YouTube on my tv screen. It was really fun and felt like I had a trainer right in my living room! As a former ballerina, I absolutely love this style of fitness and could really see myself doing more of that in the future. It wasn’t hard on my back and I was definitely feeling the burn.

For my second workout, I went for a couple mile walk with my hubby around our neighborhood. We’re trying to enjoy our beautiful location before it gets too hot. Plus, walking is a lot of fun when you get to look at pretty houses along the way! (I’m obsessed with Mediterranean style homes!)

Week 3

Okay, so let’s try working out three times this week. This’ll be interesting as I start teaching at the first week of summer camp. But, I’m up for the challenge! (Also, as a part of this challenge, try implimenting a new type of workout that you’ve never tried before! Keep things fresh!)

If you’ve just now decided to join my fitness challenge, you can start anytime!

Today, I thought I’d share with you my recipe for a refreshing and healthy smoothie! (Bonus!) Why is it that making smoothies is so FUN?!

Green Smoothie

  • Servings: 2
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

Ingredients:

2 Peach yogurts

1/2 Cup of frozen Mango

1/4 Cup of frozen pineapple

1 Teaspoon of honey

1 Handful of spinach

Almond milk til desired consistency

Directions:

Place all ingredients into blender in the order listed above. Blend until smooth and creamy! You can add quick oats if you’d like to make the smoothie more filling. Enjoy for breakfast or after a workout! 🍍🌴🌺

Picking up a smoothie from smoothie stands is great and delicious, but there’s nothing better than making your own and knowing exactly what fresh ingredients are going into it! (And how much sugar.)

Remember, it’s all about real ingredients.

By the way, a sliced banana always adds awesome flavor and texture to a smoothie. Consider adding one to my recipe above!

Good luck with this week’s fitness challenge! Let me know how it’s going for you!

Fitness Challenge: Week 2

Summer! It is officially summer at my workplace. I hope you all had a fantastic week! My week consisted of a lot of realizations, lessons, and hope. (But that’s a blog post for another time 😉)

So last week, I posted my first fitness challenge! If you haven’t checked it out already, you can do so here.

My challenge to myself was to workout once. Just once.

And I did it!

Because of my back injuries, I have to be careful. Therefore, I just did some light yoga and a whole lot of stretching. It felt amazing to just be doing something for my body, even if it wasn’t anything hardcore. I did have some back pain the next day, so in future workouts I will probably try to take it even slower.

Remember, it’s all about creating small goals to achieve big goals!

First small goal: achieved!

Week 2

This week, my challenge will be to work out (you guessed it) twice. Still very doable!

If you don’t even know where to begin or what to do, YouTube has a wealth of fitness videos you can use for free! My television has a YouTube app, so I can pull up fitness videos on a large screen. If you have this option, I highly recommend!

Pinterest also has a ton of easy workouts you can try. You just have to get up and give them a go.

I find that once you start working out, it becomes easier to motivate yourself to workout again. It becomes, in a sense, addicting. (I’m not quite there yet, but it’s getting easier.)

This workout challenge is for myself and anyone who wants to join! If you’re with me, post a comment below or send me a message! I’d love to help keep each other motivated!

I’ll let you know how Week 2 goes! Remember, I’m keeping it totally real. We can do this. Let’s make this summer, a fit summer. 🌴🌺

Fitness Challenge: Week 1

I love being active and eating heathy. It’s very gratifying to me. Thankfully, I have a job where I walk a lot and climb stairs almost constantly. I never take the elevator, because the stairs are the perfect daily fitness opportunity! Squeeze in fitness when ya can!

However, I never take the time to actually work out. It’s really tough. I’m exhausted when I get home from work. Then, I have to cook dinner and make lunches for the next day. Shower, chores, etc. It’s tough. For all of us.

Back in July, I was in a bad car accident. I have daily back and neck pain that just doesn’t seem to be getting any better. In fact, lately it’s felt worse. (However, I am SO incredibly grateful that my injuries are not terrible. God was truly protecting my hubby and I. I’ll tell that story another time 😉)

Furthermore, my back pain has inspired me to try to naturally help myself. I want to see if working out will help alleviate some of the discomfort and strengthen my back. Plus, working out is just a really important factor in a healthy lifestyle. So I can’t go wrong!

So let’s get started!

Fitness Challenge

To help keep myself motivated, I decided to create a weekly fitness challenge; for myself and whoever wants to join!

Week 1

I find that if you set goals that are too large, they are hard to achieve. Therefore, I’m all about setting a series of small goals to help achieve one big goal.

The Big Goal: Work out consistently a few times a week.

This week’s small goal: work out once.

That’s right. Once. I know, that’s pretty hilarious. But I have to be realistic. After working all day in the blazing sun, I’m not ready to commit to working out all the time. So let’s just start with one workout at a time. 💪

Each week, I’ll update you with how I did. Don’t worry, I’ll be totally honest and real. If I didn’t work out, you’ll be the first to know. I will also let you know what the challenge is for the next week. Each week might be slightly different, with increased amounts of workouts. Let’s get strong!

I’m ready to be the #fitwife !
