A Readied Heart

Ahhh dear friends, it feels good to be writing again.  It’s been a little while, but life has been so busy. And I’ve come to this place where I only want to write if I feel completely and entirely inspired. I’d say tonight feels right.

There’s a gentle rain outside, Lady is curled up at my feet, and I’m feeling all sorts of cozy.  Just thought I’d set the scene for ya.

Christmas time is fast approaching.  It’s hard to believe that my favorite time of year is breezing by so quickly. Since December is almost here, I wanted to share an important project with you all.

Last December, I did something that made my Christmas season so very special.  On December 1st, I started a Christmas Bible reading plan.  I read about the true reason for the season straight from God’s Word at the start of each day, all month long. It was truly amazing because my heart was ready from the very start.

It’s so easy to get all caught up in the shopping and the decorating. The hustle.  Events. Dinners. Constant happenings. And these are all so fun and beautiful and special.  Yet, it can be so easy to make Jesus an afterthought.  A Christmas Eve service. A quick reading of Luke 2 on Christmas morning. Check and Check. Okay, now back to food and presents.

So, by starting each and every day of December reading about what Christmas is all about, your heart is fixed on the eternal.  Meditating on the reason Christ was born.  It brings about a readied heart.

Last December I made a new tradition that I plan on continuing for the rest of my life–reading from God’s Word about Christmas every day in December.

So I thought I’d give you the opportunity to join me! Below are some links to various Bible reading plans that I’ll be using this December. You can choose one or do a combo. The Bible App has a huge selection. You’re more than welcome to join me, as we ready our hearts for this divine season.  I assure you—You will be blessed.  Time spent with the Lord is never wasted.

Each of these plans contains a short devotion and then scripture that coincides with it.  Note: The third plan I listed has really neat videos to watch each morning and is only 4 days long.

Join me as we embrace this joyous season with a heart of worship.  An intentional admiration.  Take moments to be still and let the Lord quiet you with His Love.  That is ever important in such a busy time of year.  Let’s gather and have a readied heart.

Oh, and always feel free to message me.  It’d be fun to share thoughts on what God teaches us throughout the month of December.

Christmas Decor Ideas

I’m quite the homebody. I love a quiet day spent at home, tea in hand. This season, I’ve enjoyed decking the halls in our new apartment home. 🎄

My philosophy when it comes to decorating for the seasons, is bringing the outside in. I try to implement this strategy in as many ways as I creatively can. It’s certainly a budget friendly motto to live by!

Here’s some festive Christmas decor ideas that’ll warm your heart just as much as a cup of hot cocoa.

1. Homemade Potpourri

My, does this make for a pretty display! And the smell? Ah! Delightful! All I did here was dry some oranges in the oven, arrange them in a bowl with some fresh cranberries, a cinnamon stick, and a sprig of our fresh Christmas tree! Some fresh cloves would be a fragrant addition as well. I think I’ve made myself a new tradition right here!

2. Set the Scene

Display your favorite Christmas reads! This gives off that lived-in Christmasy home. I always like to take off the paper sleeves on my books. More often than not, there is a gorgeous book underneath!

3. Christmas in a Jar

Perhaps the easiest Christmas decor to accomplish! All you need is a large mason jar, some red ribbon, and some Christmas tree branches! I don’t put the branches in water, but let them dry instead. This prevents mold from building up in there.

4. Orange Slice Ornaments

I dried some extra orange slices to make ornaments! Simply string them with some twine, and hang them on a branch with a light behind it. Natural stained glass! I can see myself making these with my future kiddos one day.

5. Mantle Arrangements

Okay, so this isn’t exactly a mantle. More like an IKEA tv shelf, but let’s pretend, shall we? Here I took more Christmas tree branches, added some pine cones, a few berries, and some battery operated fairy lights! Magical.

6. Remember the Reason

Don’t forget to add some Christmas cheer to your kitchen! How lovely is this nativity? It was my grandma’s years ago. (Thanks, Grandma!) I love its simplicity. A beautiful reminder of what Christmas is all about–the birth of our Savior!

I hope you feel inspired to think outside the box when you decorate this season! Wishing you and yours a very, merry Christmas!

Gift Idea :: For Him

We love him. Dad. Husband. Grandpa. Boyfriend. So lovable, yet so hard to shop for.

Gifting for men can be mind boggling. You want to find something special, but something he will actually use. Something that won’t go out of style, yet not too generic.

Let’s keep this simple, shall we?

Get him a JORD Wood Watch.

It’s a unique twist on a classic. Quality and timeless. A statement piece. In fact, I’m confident these watches could easily become heirloom keepsakes to be passed down through the years.

Because of their wood design, these unique watches aren’t overly heavy or clunky. Beautifully crafted and exquisite attention to detail, each watch comes housed in a stunning cedar wood box.

My husband loves the earthy, masculine vibe of his wooden watch. He is wearing the Hyde Kosso & Gray. This particular timepiece stands out for its intentional minimalism.

“I like the simplistic aesthetic of the watch face. It’s clean and sleek,” says Billy.

I truly believe a JORD Wood Watch would make a memorable gift under your tree this year. You know, where his face lights up when he opens it, kind of memorable. JORD even offers custom engravings if you want to take the sentimental factor to a whole new level.

Gift him with something truly special and unique. Every time he glances at his wrist, you’ll be the reason he can’t help but smile.
